The first I heard of George Soros was in 1992 when he was proudly claiming credit for breaking the English Pound and making a billion dollars doing so.

The first I heard about the Koch brothers was around the time that Obama became president. They seemed to be the liberal response to the connection being made between George Soros and the progressives.

I had never heard of Alinsky until Obama came around either. Of course, this doesn't mean that the progressive politicians hadn't heard of him. As we now know, most progressive politicians are quite familiar with his works.
