It wasn't about having stronger, rested workers.

It was about being able to get workers to work consistently, workers who valued their jobs sufficiently to actually show up, as assembly lines didn't run without a certain number of people present.

It was a case of markets doing what markets do if you just leave them the hell alone and let them work.
