I like this Q&A session with the CFO of LCOS: Q: Yahoo was the first of the search engines to become profitable, followed by Lycos. Size up the competition, such as Infoseek, Excite, and Yahoo. A: People use each of us for different reasons. It's like Coke and Pepsi, or Time, U.S. News, World Report, and Newsweek in news. With navigation, it's the four of us, and there's plenty of room for each of us. Many users make their decision based on how the brand image appeals to them, or how they like the functionality. Users of Lycos tend to have higher disposable income and education. We have great demographics for advertisers.
