And who kept you busy? Who taught you the values that caused you to want to do well in school and play sports?
Very strong family unit. Old fashioned values dependent on self reliance, not playing the blame game, not relying on the government.. Stay out of trouble stay far away from the shady sketchy characters in the hood.
Yes it is almost impossible to avoid if you are a young black kid raised in the ghetto to a single mom. BUT why did the conditions in place since the early 1970's not exist prior to LBJ's Great Society even tough racism against blacks was not only legal but far, far, far greater than any out there these days?
They did exist. But back then no one cared what happened to blacks. Why do you think so many blacks after WW II fled the South for an uncertain future in the North? They were dirt poor.......they did not have a chance in hell of getting ahead in the South so they gave up their cultural roots, their family support and migrated North. And that worked for a while until the jobs gave out. Blacks were last to be hired and first to be laid off. When the jobs gave out permanently, blacks were stuck and in serious trouble in their northern ghettos........at least in the South, they could grow their own food. Its why the riots happened in the 1960s. To understand blacks today, one has to look at all that happened to them in this country over the past 300 years.
And its not just blacks that got screwed in the last half of the 20th century. A similar thing happened to Appalachian whites..........although not as bad. Most of them migrated to KY, WV, OH and MI. And where is the biggest meth addiction among whites in this country.........KY, WV, OH and MI. |
