K: People have had to do that throughout history. Darwin waited 20 years to publish is Origin of Species he was so afraid. Mark Twain would not let his daughter publish his letters on Christianity until after his death. And even today people like my extended family, all atheists, have to tread carefully.
We do honor the laws, probably more than most. One of my friends a judge, just came back from Denmark. He pointed out how everyone stops for lights to turn green to and how much they cooperate. Demark is almost totally left wing and atheistic.
<< | B: I see--I think. You are saying you and your other family all are cultural actors reading the cultural script when required, but are not controlled by it when you are not on stage so to speak.

Throughout history there have been rebels, actors, artists, political activists etc. whose mission it was to change society through their mediums while still participating in society to an extent to be part of it.
I think these people we're following scripts, their own internal ones, but not society's prevailing one. If that is what you are saying then I accept that. I think, though, that calling this an "existential" approach just muddies the philosophical waters so to speak because this lends itself to misinterpretation (because the term "existential " has a formal philosophical meaning) of what I think is your main message. |
