According to the leader of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Muslims living in America should not be bound by U.S. law. “If we are practicing Muslims, we are above the law of the land,” said Herman Mustafa Carroll, executive director of the Dallas-Fort Worth CAIR branch.
That's actually a rather interesting statement.

Certainly the First Amendment guarantees that government shall not infringe upon the free exercise of religion.

But does that mean any citizen is allowed to disobey any law by saying, "My religion forbids it"? Clearly not. There are probably thousands of federal cases throughout the history of America where citizens tried and failed to use this defense.

Either that, or I can simply say "My religion forbids paying taxes" when the IRS shows up at my door.
