Do you think it is easy working your way through a university?

I did it. Full time professional job and full class schedule. Never went to a college party or sports event. Just went to school and work. So I think i have a pretty good idea.

no, you have romanticized what you were doing. You were long haired smelly drug addicts and sluts. Which is ok, I had my phases too. The difference is that you still think it is cool because you fooled yourself into thinking that you were fighting for a cause. Every teenager rebels against his or her parents. That's all that you 60s hippies ever were. Just kids with low self esteem who felt strong enough in groups to let their voices be heard, but in the end, you just wanted approval from your parents while you misbehaved.
