Existentialism has many formal definitions and more informal ones. What is worse is that it is "both" subjective and sort of objective. I am giving my mental image, many others would give a different one.

So it is sort of something I claim, but that I cannot really explain or defend.

Still, it is, IMO as important as the industrial revolution. For this reason:

All of human history existed without any existential thought in its full flower. Great minds in the past sort of guessed at it. This is because it required a certain level of understanding (e.g. science and reason) to fully see as a mature, or at least next level of understanding, mental image.

It is so important, because the keys to mental freedom lie in understanding it.
