I wouldn't worry about the democracy thing so much. Everyone in the middle east are all still trying to get democracy to "set" after 10,000 years of dictatorships. And they all have a secular population rising while they have 7th century cultures dying.

When we started our democracy we had a rough road too, but we got lucky and had some founding fathers that held our fledgling democracy's hand until we grew up. Jefferson, Washington, two Adams, etc.

South American attempts at democracy failed time after time.

I am looking at the political chess game in Egypt and see the secular kids winning, in as you say the Turkey mode. Iran should have been so lucky. And in Egypt the Islamists really made a terrible political mistake that will probably turn out to be their death nail.

The kids in Iran will not even talk to the parents they are so disgusted with their parents religious thinking. They want a democracy and love the west, which is why it would be nuts for us to bomb them as it would turn them against us.
