And everyone discussing it knows this. But when these huge charges are discussed, there is almost always an agenda behind it. If a person really wants to discuss true cost of health care, they'll talk about the amounts that are actually PAID, not the amounts that are charged. The agenda is price transparency. What other industry has "list prices" that are 10x or more their real prices? I don't know how a free market guy like you can defend the practice.
