longnshort, Would you believe, I have to agree with you on the reductions that the ACA placed on my previous employment Healthcare. I do not have such coverage which I once had as a professional negotiator and organizer.
While an organizer we had bargained full coverage for healthcare which included: vision coverage including glasses, contacts, etc., 100% health, medical, major medical, dental and catastrophic coverage, a car with personal use, and incentive saving plan, SS plan which was completely paid by the organization including 100% of my portion, a separate 401K which was all paid for by the organization plus five weeks vacation for my family. Additionally, I had an education training package for additional degrees, labor relation, managerial, legal, lobbying and political action, crisis management, counseling training, etc. But, it took one 50 work day lock out with management and a 50 work day strike to obtain these results during the crucial times we were needed. Could it be that we were held the management and others hostage, YES! Agreements were only agreed to after the use of the American Arbitration Association when the "personal pain thrash hold" was so great on both parties and management that the parties came to an agreement to avoid additional pain and loss of salaries, lack of healthcare coverage and potential dis-struction of the organization.
Do we see any parallels with the "debt limit," extension coming up during the next couple of month with the potential default of the US economy. Honestly, it can truly become a perceived WAR between two ideologies.
Naturally, individuals do not like giving up what they have gained, but, that is a fact of life, and what happens when there is no power of the collective group with selected skills. Whether, it be interpersonal relationships, divorces, legal cases, bargaining, or WARS between countries, many times results only come after equal pain (perceived or actual) is felt between the parties. |
