8/2/13 Contest Update
Is the music about to stop for the booming biotech sector? As Pope Francis put it: “Who am I to judge”?
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 44.09% YTD (vs. up 38.56% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 46.62% (vs. up 43.39% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 22.19% YTD (vs. up 19.66% YTD a week ago).
First place BLADE’s portfolio continued to roar ahead, finishing the week with an acrophobia-inducing 120.26% YTD gain. RKRW’s portfolio, up 107.32% YTD, remained firmly in control of second place, with FILO’s portfolio, up 92.18% YTD, holding third place.
At Friday's close, all 39 Contest portfolios were still in the black with 18 of the 39 beating the NBI. And, remarkably, even the 39th place poorest performing Contest portfolio has an 8.7% YTD gain.
