As a whole the US has to be quickly becoming one of the least productive Productivity in the US hasn't declined in absolute terms, and if its declined in relative terms its a much more modest decline than that. Which is not to say that all the new or expanded regulations, taxes, etc. have not been harmful in both absolute and relative terms, but as Adam Smith said “There is a great deal of ruin in a nation”. And restrictions on trade are just more harm piled on top of everything else.
