One day a man from up north (i.e. a "dam yankee") was driving
across the long, dull, (this was some time ago) Texas space
between the tiny towns of Houston and Dallas. Naturally his
attention was attracted away from the fence posts and concrete
that dominated the views, and he looked carefully at the
living creatures that occasionally he drove by.
He only saw three people, a small boy performing an unnatural
act with a chicken, a middle aged man chasing after a chicken,
and a man of about age 60 performing an unnatural act with
hisself.
When he got to Dallas, he told what he'd seen to the gas
station attendant (this was back in the days when they actually
attended), and said "I can't understand. What is with it with
these Texans?"
The attendant explained: "Well, you wouldn't expect an old
man to go chasing after a chicken, would you?"
