One thing also pointed out, there is very little observed in the physical realm is ever random, most every event predictable & measurable down to precise miliseconds & nanometers. As for purpose, one can say intuitively with instinctual social creatures purpose emerges simultaneously along with their graduial increasing self awareness & sentience. We see much cooperative behavior in animals as well, the advantageous nature of cooridinated activities all the way back to functioning insect hives, migrating birds & herding creatures, even in the activity of solitary animals.

Evolved patterned behavior gathers over long periods of time, a function of natural selection, environmental pressure, species adaptation where very little whimsy or randomness is allowed or tolerated but much gradual building & steady replication... with one goal: replicating again & again.
