The point is, the icons were in facts robber barons and loved using monopolies, violence and government to drive competitors out of business....once they were on top.

Yes another belief, that's somewhat contradictory to the facts. They did love being the dominant player, but even the actual monopolies where not secure without government protection, as the example of Standard Oil shows. They may have indeed desired to drive out the competitors but usually they could not, and if they could it was almost always with the help of government.
