UMC group buys 90 mln Holtek rights shares for 4.05 bln twd

TAIPEI (AFX-ASIA) - United Microelectronics Corp and group members
together have purcahsed 90 mln rights shares in Holtek Microelectronics Inc
for 4.05 bln twd, a UMC official said.
UMC group will hold a 15.8 pct stake in Holtek, allowing it to fill seats
on the board of Holtek's directors and supervisors.
He described such a relationship as a win-win tie as UMC is willing to
provide its experience in management and operation to Holtek.
Holtek recently agreed to provide IC contract manufacturing services to
UMC group after group member United Integrated Circuits Corp was damaged by a
fire early October.
UMC was up 4.50 twd at 73.50 and Holtek gained 3.50 to 55.50. Both stocks
were limit-up.
