I'm sorry, but I've known a ton of teachers who got through education programs by just showing up. As I said, not all do that -- my niece was an Art Education major, exceptionally talented and bright, and worked hard to get through her education program.

Some do. But if you are just wanting to get a "degree", have no particular passion for anything, Education is the perfect landing zone.

Yes, it is a highly attractive major. You don't have to give up your premium early 20s party years, yet, you get good pay, lots of time off, nice benefits, good retirement.
I'm not here to bash teachers. And I'm sure an Education major at a fine school like Cornell works hard to get through the program. But in most universities, ordinary people could easily get through those programs without so much as cracking a book. |
