"We had sky high taxes in the 50's and 60's and corporations did just fine as did everyone else.

Also anybody who made money was buying tax shelters. I remember as a young attorney just starting out I would get 5 to 10 calls a week trying to push them on me. Every Doctor I knew had at least one. Money was diverted from productive enterprise to nonproductive. Eventually this contributed to the economic weakness that followed.
