I bet he wish he had a gun like Zimmerman

Man Fighting for Life After Brutal Beating in St. PaulLinda Widstrand says, she got a call last Sunday about her son Ray. She says, the cop said her son had been jumped and he was in critical condition at the hospital.

"I just couldn't believe it, I had a hard time with that and then somebody from my work took me to the hospital," Linda Widstrand said.

Ray's sister Alice says, the first time she saw her brother she had a loss for words.

"It's hard to see anyone in your family in that condition but seeing your older brother, there's really no words to describe it," Alice Widstrand said.

Last Sunday St. Paul Police say, around 11:30 p.m., they got a tip about a large fight at the intersection of Preble Street and Minnehaha Avenue. Once they got there they saw about 40-50 people running from the area and a man on the ground with blood coming from his nose and mouth.

Witnesses say, a fight broke out between a group of girls. At the same time Ray Widstrand was walking up the street when he was punched. Police say, that's when a group of kids started kicking and stomping on him. They even took his pants. Many of the kids involved are believed to be members of the East Side Boyz or the Ham Crazy Gang.

Eddie Lomack lives on the third floor of an apartment building near the scene. His window faces Preble Street so he had a clear view of what was going on.

"It went from a lot of commotion to a crime scene," Lomack said.

After speaking with numerous witnesses, three juveniles have been arrested along with 19-year-old Isaac Maiden who was identified from a still shot taken from a camera in the area.

The criminal complaint can be found here.

Maiden was scheduled to make his first court appearance Friday. The Ramsey County Attorney's Office recommended that Maiden be held on $150,000 bail.

Police are expecting to make more arrests in the case.
