To All: Novell's Marketing ranking 1994 by expenditures was No. 21 out of top 100.

To get a good perspective of how effective Novell was in their marketing and where they spent their dollars and who authorized these dollars, look at the attached link.

Now, "What is" and "What will be different" for 1996/1997. Same CFO, J. Tolonen, same VP for sales but now CEO Mr. Marengu..

Is Ms Christine Hughes, senior VP-corporate marketing still around?
Do we have stiil use the Ad agency: Young & Rubicam Inc.? If not who? What will be done differently? Novell's management needs to provide us a clear and concise picture of there overall marketing program.

What surprised me is the size and distribution of dollars spent in 1994.

In summary, it is not just throwing money into advertizing for the sake of money BUT effectively allocating these dollars so they translate into sales and repeat sales.

NOVELL, Let's get more agressive with our marketing budget and allocate more of these dollars towards our successful VARs. Coop advertizing, incentive sales options to VARs that reslove customer problems utilizing a Novell product or 3rd party Novell integrated application or several other approaches that keep NOVELL in the face of our customer. Let's get innovative at how these dollars can be better utilized. I believe CEO Marengi would still say the best approach is a one on one with the customer and stay with them until they say YES!

My concern is that Novell has spent big bucks in the past (1994 per the attached link) and although effective, we must also think smart and get the biggest bang for our dollar spent.
