The trouble with personal experience is that it's so limited. When a company produces drives in the millions, the reliability or troublesomeness of the handful of drives an individual owns is insignificant. Although manufacturers have accurate data, fat chance we'll see any of it.

When considering people's reviews, remember that most happy customers are silent and those with a complaint are often quite vocal. Perhaps the most valid opinions are those of people running huge storage centres since these guys are observing drive reliability over sample sizes in the thousands.

Cheers, PW.

P.S. Drives I currently own. . .

Western Digital 3.5 Seven
Western Digital 2.5 One
Seagate 3.5 One
Seagate 2.5 One
Hitachi 2.5 One
Fujitsu 2.5 One

Drives that are failing. . .

My one and only Seagate 3.5
