I think you are projecting here, Epicure. You are pretty high power person with a great education and lots of useful skills and presumably raised in a stable situation. I would think, and I'm saying this without any stats to back me up, that the majority of welfare recipients (not counting the disabled) don't have the background, education, or training to function at your level--at least in terms of being economically successful--not saying they wouldn't be good parents. Indeed the fact that they are on welfare in the first place pretty much confirms this more or less.
