But the point for me is that if this is an example of a school that is supposed to be solving the problem (by using a super school for educating the economically disadvantaged) then we are not there yet--or even close.

I told you that. You don't overcome 300 years of dysfunction in one generation.


It is true that solving this will take time--partially because we don't know what works yet--and partially because it may not be solvable--or at least on any level that is practicable. Just so you don't term this school "successful" now--in the present. The jury is still out on it I would say as whether this works--unless we have some current data that shows that.

What would be criteria for "successful" in the context of King county? When the school graduation rate matches the counties 80% average would be one.

What be my "criteria" for successful for minorities? When their graduation rate matches that of non-minorities and that would be a minimum standard.

I would like to know how much Seattle or King County is spending on Garfield per student and how that matches on a per student basis for the rest of the county. That might give us some insight on how "effective" the dollars are being used and give us feedback as to whether money alone is the answer here.
