carolyn, also consider using state rest stops....most rest stops will allow you to park up to 24 hours (some states like CA, the limit is 8, although, i've never heard of anyone being asked to leave as long as they were just 'parked' no awnings, nothing on the ground, preferably sliders in)

some rest stops are fantastic, others not so much, but if you are really tired and just need some quick shut eye, rest stops fill the bill....oh and no reservations required, and it's 'free'

thank you for this thread, neeka! i think more and more people are getting into camping...i recently did a baja peninsula trip with an RV and it was quite the experience!
