A friend had booked a hall and Rosa was scheduled to come speak. It's been postponed. She just posted this. Sounds like retaliation to me.

She owns some rental property (apartments) there. Here's what she said in her email of yesterday:
"A couple of weeks ago we received a notice from our city's (Santa Rosa, CA) chief code compliance officer saying that we were being fined $1,500 per day for having an illegal unit in one of the properties that we own here. The property is a triplex--we purchased it in 2005 as a triplex. The unit in question has a kitchen in it that appears to be of 1970's vintage. The fine dates from a supposed Stop Work notice that we did not receive; we were not doing work at that time. Since that Stop Work is dated mid July 2006, the fine is over $3,875,000. The property value is about $500,000 total. Apparently the City recorded this notice as a lien against the property in 2006 and it never came to us.
There are a lot of details but basically we have found county records that show that the owner in 1973 did create that unit. The City of Santa Rosa doesn't care. They contend that we must now bring the building up to 2013 codes---a building that was first constructed in 1908.
Is this retaliation against whistle-blowers? We sued the City in 2006 to stop their enormous redevelopment project and we were successful in blocking its implementation. Now we are suing to stop Plan Bay Area, the Sustainable Communities Strategies Regional Plan that will enforce UN Agenda 21 islands of human habitation in the nine county, 101 city San Francisco Bay Area.
Unfortunately, I am going to have to postpone my East Coast trips so that we can focus on research and defense against this perfect example of the petty dictatorship in local code enforcement that so many of us in this nation face every day. I do feel confident that the facts will prevail but I'm not naive enough to assume that.

SO, as you can see, the State of California, and her city wants to make her life as miserable as possible. I was hoping to take any extra $ from her speech (that attendees donated) and present it, in the form of a check to help her with the lawsuit she has filed against the State of CA.
