That's an illustrative comment to make regarding university education Koan. There's a big difference between single loop learning and double loop learning. Single loop learning is modeled on the idea that an instructor/teacher has specific knowledge, that knowledge is transferred to the student and the students regurgitate back whether they have learned the information via assessments, papers etc. Single loop learning typically occurs at the undergraduate level, professor put out the information, and students memorize the information presented and prove they have learned the material presented.

Double loop learning typically occurs at the Masters level in education. Information is presented and students are encouraged to challenge the assumptions upon which the information is presented, do their own research and present findings that support, or contradict the information and perhaps add to the body of knowledge on the subject.

It appears based on your comment, that you have not been exposed to a double loop learning experience. Because, in a double loop learning environment the students often learn more from one another than they do from the professor, especially if one is privileged to have an open minded and intelligence group of classmates. This is particularly true in the social science area of history and politics.

Now, for more of your online double loop learning educational experience....

Modern liberals today were referred to as progressives in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Herbert Croly, John Dewey, Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and others reflected their views. Progressive reforms enabled statutes aimed at restricting economic opportunity for African Americans. Progressivism gave birth to Jim Crow. The racism of Progressive politicians was institutional and enforced by law.
