>> The left is where the reason and facts are.
You're always saying this kind of stuff, but I can't really square that with my own life experience.
I find my left-leaning friends and relatives to be devoid of analytical thought; substantially uninformed about important issues, and generally to believe they understand far more than they do.
And in addition, they consistently close their minds to more informed persons and simply won't hear of any discussion of opinions that aren't consistent with their own.
Examples would be my SIL, who will comment on the Internet on politics and initiate a discussion. But as soon as anyone opposes her viewpoint, she abandons the thread with a comment like, "Oh, I can't take this political discussion -- I'm out." When she started in the first place.
Or my cousins -- she a unionized teacher, he a union electrician (both retired, both receiving taxpayer dollars on a monthly basis -- he from SS disability, she from teacher retirement). They will criticize conservatives, but then when you begin to criticize THEIR candidates, he says, "Talking politics makes her uncomfortable. Let's talk about the trees."
Earlier tonight I tried to explain to a leftwinger that Medicare has trillions in unfunded liabilities. They're not going to hear of it. I was, of course, called a "liar".
So, wherever this extreme intelligence is, I can't find it amongst liberals I associate with. It seems to me these people are consistently out of touch, avoiding the issues, and couldn't understand them if they didn't. |
