Before we enact common sense solutions, as per your suggestion, to keeping Social Security viable...we first have to acknowledge as a country that there is a problem to solve. Unfortunately, most people don't believe the SS program is in trouble. The Democrats attack anyone trying to solve the problem by saying they are trying to abolish SS. The Republicans mostly want to eliminate SS. So there don't seem to be too many people like me who want SS to continue, but in a structurally solvent way. So acknowledging there's a problem and agreeing to solve it is the first step for everyone.

Of course, most people in this country don't think having 50% of the work force on government welfare is a problem either. We're in such massive denial that we can't even begin to muster the steam to solve problems.
