Let's consider Apple as an example. They currently sell 30 million iPhones a quarter. Let's say they introduce a low cost iPhone and start selling 50 million iPhones a quarter. Is that necessarily a positive outcome? It depends on the degree of high end cannibalization.

Large sales of the 500's is not the ideal thing, rather see it in the 900's and 1020, but it's a good thing. It's pretty hard to attack the entrenched systems, and doing it from the bottom up is one tried and true method. All those folks will have a comfort level with WP and Nokia.

Bad part is it takes more time to move up to the higher profit items. But it's tough to hit a home run on the high end with Samsung and Apple taking so much oxygen.
