I spent time in Alabama (well, Tuscaloosa, if that's still considered a part of the state), and I know that the folks in that lovely state would never even think of bustin' on the turistas. Fact is, the folks I met down there were so unfailingly kind to this poor dumb yankee (never even had grits before I went down there) that it took me two months to recover from the culture shock after I left.
And I have seen T-shirts and bumper stickers saying "Eat More Possum", though I'm not quite sure what they meant, exactly.
