Three players -- Bob Kuechenberg, Manny Fernandez and Jim Langer -- opted to not accept the invitation for political reasons.)

In 2013, President Barack Obama honored the entire 1972 Perfect Season Dolphins at an event in the White House, but Kuechenberg declined to attend for political reasons. [3] [4] [1] [5] He told sports columnist Dave Hyde of Ft. Lauderdale's Sun-Sentinel "I want to be careful, because mom said if you have nothing good to say about someone, then don't say anything. I don't have anything good to say about someone." [6]

Fortunately most on the team are like Shula, Csonka and Buoniconti .... class acts. That Obama immediately knew that the Dolphins were the only team to defeat the Bears thus keeping them from being the second team to be undefeated shows our prez is a 'real American as apple pie' too. I bet a Ted Cruz or Rand Paul or Mitt Romney would flub that answer<g>
