I'm really concerned about the character of some of the violence we're now seeing.

These are not run-of-the-mill murders over drugs or robberies or even turf. They're just racially motivated hate crimes against whites.

In last night's episode of The First 48 (one of about two TV shows I never miss), two black brothers were murdered in their own back yard by a lifelong "friend". There was no apparent motive (although, there was the suggestion it might have been because one of the brothers had a small amount of cash, but no evidence of that).

The total lack of respect for human lives, such that someone would kill two, wound two more, and then spend the rest of his life in prison for no reason at all is just strange. While murder rates are down, this kind of senseless crime is, it seems to me, growing rapidly.
