Well, since we're sharing family stuff...thought I'd share something kinda "life altering" for us, too.
We just got thru informing our employees that as of Sept 30, after 38 years in business...there will be no more R V Concrete company. We are hanging up our boots and trowels (and all those aggravating govt forms!) and moving into the next season of our lives.
Robert has decided, ON HIS OWN, that he's done. He's tired...he's not enjoying it...and his body is just ready to ride tractors and farm for the next 38 years. No telling his hobby after that!
We've been away a lot this year and most of that was to have quiet time to pray, think and "listen". He heard...oh, he heard alright! 2 long hard physical days almost killed him a couple months ago & he came home to pass out and tell me "I'm done. I'm getting too old for this".
Thought we'd wait til year's end; but things have been falling into place that let us know for a fact that this IS God's perfect timing for us to step into a new season. Why not? We've mastered the fine art of concrete construction...time to tackle something else, right?
This morning in my annual comp audit, we were informed that TN changed the Workers Comp law and we have to "now pay Work comp on Robert for $60k payroll" (retroactively). Say what? Extra $4k they want for last year. They "should" have informed us about it and that we could file for an exemption for $215...but why when they could have $4k a year till we called it quits??? R said "ok, final confirmation that it's time to quit. I can't continue working for the government AND the insurance company". Ole E' is in full agreement.
So there...perhaps not as interesting as bike wrecks, broken collar bones and near misses on the railroad track (HEY JEFF...you take better care of you...I love you dude and don't want you hurt or worse!)...but since I've put every big thing that has occurred in our lives here for the past 14 years...I figured it was ok to share this here also. :)
Next up? Farming! NOT burning up equipment. :) But feeding, fencing, hay baling, bush hogging, tending cows & taking time to teach our grandkiddos to enjoy a farm! Well, that is, after we clear out our shop/house/etc...sell this property, remodel the house at the farm and MOVE. (easy peasy, right??) So excited. Now that the deed of telling the employees is over...we're at peace and excited.
