Social science is about exploring values and what to do about them. Like political science and the types of governments, or social science and the types of societies and what we want. Mankind lived horrible lives until we discovered democracy. A few people controlled everyone else and made them live under horrible conditions e.g. KIngs, dictators and tribal chiefs who forced slavery and brutality which was common. Democracy and science gave us civilization. I just saw a program on the first westerners in the Congo and how cruel they were putting most of the people into slavery and whipping them and cutting their limbs off if they did not produce. We used to allow torture and let people die who were poor. Today that seems barbarian. They also call it social studies. And it is unfathomable to me how so many people e.g. could just overlook how terrible segregation was/is, let alone slavery. Yet I know many people in this country still think segregation was just fine. Civilization is defined by compassion and kindness, but I cannot prove that.
