bob, the whole point of statistics is to estimate probability and determine if something is random or actually being caused by something.

More than 2 standard deviations below the mean means something only happens less than 3 out of 100 times: 50+34+13 =97%. When something that only has a 3% chance of happening does so 3 times in 6 years, the probability is that it is not a random event, and that there is indeed causality!


Like manmade global warming.
