What the AP article didn't do was to call it what it is: Incompetence.

You can't reasonably take a guy off the street who has no meaningful experience with these matters and expect him to make sensible decisions. Add to the fact his fairly radical views on the US role in the world, and it is a recipe for disaster.

Unfortunately, his re-election campaign was far more competent than his administration.
