Since Android allows loading of apps outside Google's store, this may be a somewhat unfair comparison. US Government finds nearly 80% of mobile malware targets Android August 26, 2013 \| By Surur wmpoweruser.com The US Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice has released a joint memo in which they caution government workers about the dangers of mobile malware, noting that 79% of malware threats in 2012 targeted Android. The other major platform was Symbian, which had 19% of the problem, while all other mobile platforms had less than 1%. While Windows Mobile, Microsoft’s legacy mobile platform, had 0.3%, Windows Phone did not score enough to show up in the list, and can be safely assumed to have an insignificant level of malware. The unclassified memo called Android the “primary target for malware attacks,” due to its dominant market share and open source architecture and reminded federal, state and local authorities to update and patch their mobile devices. We suggest instead the agencies follow the path of companies like Delta Airlines and O2 and instead move to a more secure platform such as Windows Phone and spare themselves a lot of headaches.
