In Libya, we turned a no-fly mandate to protect civilians into a no-drive mission to change regimes. The Russians were mightily pissed, and became distrustful.

One again, we are starting from a point of regime change, not protecting civilian life forms. We'll get no cooperation from Russia, who made it clear early on that they will send missiles to Syria.

Frankly I could give a damn what Putin likes and dislikes. The man is a pig and there is going to be a lot of turmoil this winter during the Olympics thanks to his new anti gay law. Therefore, any decision Obama makes re Syria should not be predicated on what Putin thinks IMO.

Having said that, I have very mixed feelings about intervening in Syria. Its a choice between two bad choices: doing nothing and letting people die continuously or intervening in a disaster of a war.
