>> This is a preposterous notion. Everybody knows Barack Obama couldn’t have been responsible for the Katrina response because he was in Indonesia in 2005, learning about his Muslim faith in a madrassa. He had moved to Indonesia directly from his home country of Kenya, stopping in the United States just long enough to fake the moon landing.

If you can blame Bush for the mess our economy is in today you can certainly blame Obama for Katrina (not to mention the FACT that Bush handled Katrina pretty damned well given the scope of it).

And the people in Louisiana recognize it. They fully understand that the two BIG problems during Katrina were the mayor and the governor that THEY elected. Did you ever wonder why Blanco quietly disappeared from the political landscape? (Only months before Katrina, I heard her speak at which time her over-inflated ego had people walking out during the speech; that all disappeared the instant she failed so miserably when Katrina hit).

Bush's handling of Katrina was excellent. Thousands of stranded people were rescued by the Coast Guard from their attics and rooftops within the first few days of the flood. And in fact, the only real mishandling was at the state and local levels. It is neither FEMA's responsibility nor mildly conceivable for FEMA to be first responders and with good reason: They cannot be onsite when first responders are needed.

It is not amazing that as the real history is written (that is, the history of what actually happened rather than that written by idiots like Doug Brinkley), the people of Louisiana fully comprehend the situation. As someone who spends a lot of time in NOLA, I think Bush was one of the real bright spots of the time.
