I'm very sorry that a group of you do not like drop down menus. This feature is not going away, and no switch to turn off the active navigation menu system is being contemplated.
Hello Dimitry,

Drop down menus are a common feature on today's websites. Prominent examples include financial sites like MarketWatch, Bloomberg, and Yahoo Finance.

So why are people complaining so loudly about SI's drop downs, but not these other successful sites? Unlike SI, these sites have a slight but noticeable delay factor built into their drop down display. Therefore users are less likely to accidently invoke the drop downs when moving their cursor around on these pages.

By comparison, SI's drop downs are set to a hair trigger. The drop down link zone is positively radioactive, so users have the following major complaints:

1) Drop down menus geting triggered when user would prefer to go direct to SubjectMarks and PeopleMarks

2) Getting trapped in the search popup when rapidly sweeping across the Tools link while returning from another open window.

3) Accidently triggering the SubjectMarks drop down when aiming for the Reset button.

MarketWatch has the longest drop down delay of the three sites mentioned above. While it does have large drop down menus like SI's, I can click my mouse fast enough to bypass the drop downs entirely. Perhaps you could try out a delay factor for SI's drop downs, to see if these complaints can be resolved in a way that would satisfy both sides in this controversy.

Respectfully,
Snowshoe (the gray-bearded code monkey)
