It's not the out of wedlock per se it's the poverty that usually, but not always, that accompanies it that is the villian here. That's a more "common sense" conclusion that the ethnic based argument. However, serious research quite often confounds these kinds of "common sense" assertions. I haven't seen the serious stuff since the early to middle 90s. And given the continuing deterioration of the middle class, I would guess that variable definitions themselves are a moving goal post. In the absence of some sort of serious research material, just dropping a one variable chart out for examination and asserting that explains anything is not only inept. But suspect. Unless one offers the proper conditionals.
