The type of RV you're looking at belongs to the Class "C" category.
RV's fall into broad groupings; Class A (the self contained bus like motor home), Class B (kind of like a mini van conversion, but larger and longer), Class C, Fifth Wheel (which are hugely popular, and in the scheme of things, somewhat less expensive than Class A's, but almost as large). These are the long trailers which connect in the bed of a pickup.
And last but not least, Trailers, to which I'm partial.
What you also have to consider (in addition to the RV), is your mode of transportation, once you get to a campsite.
Class A's absolutely demand a towable vehicle. While I've seen some Class B's with a tiny car attached, most do not (however, setting up a camper and then taking it down when you're ready to explore soon becomes a pain).
Most Class C's you see, on the road, tow a vehicle of some sort.
Fifth wheel and trailers are self explanatory.
Your thinking of a Class C type coach should include some kind of towable vehicle, IMO.
Also, try to think of where you would like to camp. Off grid camping makes for piece and quiet, but access can be problematic for the larger/longer units.
Most RV's brands have their own forums, and most often you'll find a section dedicated to those who want to sell theirs.
And, quite often you'll find individuals/inspectors who reside in the area of the individual who's trying to sell their coach. If you're looking at something older, that's a good direction in which to go. They'll go through the unit for you and give their opinion; often done as a courtesy.
Many folks concentrate on those units which are "gently used (two to five years old), and the need to try to find an inspector isn't as great.
