Concentrating wealth leads to corruption in government. The founders knew this, which is why many were against it. So it is no surprise that the 17th amendment did not solve the problem. However, repealing it would just cut the cost of buying senators. I fail to see how that solves the problem.

Nope, the only way to solve the problem is to take money out of elections. They should be funded publicly.
