I never said that about our Constitution. This is not a legal concept. I said the concept of the "inalienable" rights contained in the Declaration of Independence, which I linked to an evolution of the concept of 'rights' in the worlds evolving thinking (see Wiki article previously posted to you) has caused our government in the past to defend these rights with interventionist acts, or if not intervene ourselves, then to call on other nations to do so.

The concept is alive and well. As I understand it there is no legal basis for our intervening in Syria (Lord knows they've tried to find one) short of procuring a UN endorsement--yet we are contemplating doing so on humanitarian grounds--(gassing being a crime against humanity) under the continuing concept of a right to life for innocent non-participants.
