Only because you have right wing sympathies in this area. You probably bought the whole "Cadillac welfare queen" during the Reagan admin. I found it completely reasonable. I don't know even ONE young woman today who would find an out-of-wedlock birth shameful or a reason not to keep and raise the child.

In the 1970's, most young women I knew would, and there would be a LOT of pressure on the young man to "do the right thing".
