GitHub and 3D - Interesting. I've been thinking about piracy a lot lately.

torrentfreak.com

I used to work at Tower Records where it started in Sacramento. I know the owner. Saw the first CDs. Worked in the store where they figured out renting videos was better than selling them.

.mp3s did not put Tower out of business. USED CDs on half.com and Amazon murdered Tower.

Is it Piracy when I download digital files from a vinyl album I own? I think not. Life is more complex.

In any case I saw your post right after I read this:

From Collaborative Coding to Wedding Invitations: GitHub Is Going Mainstream
wired.com

The stuff that is cogent to 3D is at the bottom of the 3rd page.

Your post of that article made me think that perhaps we are barking up the wrong tree with copywrites and patents.

Think of it this way, if GitHub takes off for 3D design, then maybe designs that would have been made with numerous flaws will reach the production stage with no or little flaws.

For example I give one star reviews on Amazon now to ANY product that has a design flaw that I think the company knew about and then produced it anyway. Like my shop vac. The extension tubes are supposed to be held to the vacuum by a thingee when not in use. They don't work at all. Its obvious they overlooked it until the production began then sold the defective product anyway.
