From day one I wanted Obama to engage the Republicans in a full blown fight, using his strength as a popular president to make them bend to his will. That is the only thing that could have worked. The bankers were afraid of him then. Not now! Like FDR did. He could have hired Stiglitz, Krugman, Volker and Roemer (and gave the latter two power). They would have started the process of breaking up the banks and bringing the plutocrats under control like FDR did. They also knew more than anyone how to address a depression. Instead he hired Summers and Geithner who aided the banks and plutocrats who have amassed huge profits while the middle class got little and the banks and plutocrats now have more power than ever. And there is nothing we can do now.
