"He is slaughtering thousands of Syrians. Why does that not bother you? "
Syrians are trying to slaughter him and eat his heart, too. This is a civil war. Civil wars (and violent revolutions) happen; they aren't pretty, and there is always collateral damage. It's a shame, but we cause a lot of collateral damage all over the world, most recently Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, and GOK where else.
This is not a civil war. Civil wars are typically between different regions of a country.........like in Yugoslavia and during the mid 19th century in the US. This is an uprising by the Syrian people. They are in revolt over the oppressive practices of the al-Assad regime. He is a brutal dictator much worse then even his father and not nearly as clever. In his effort to retain control, he is slowly but systematically destroying Syria.
All wars bothers me. Intervening in any of them bothers me even more. If we want to involve ourselves in somebody else's war, it should be to get both sides to lay down their arms and resolve their difference.
All wars bother me too. I was against the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. I would adamantly oppose Obama if he was proposing an invasion. That's not what he is recommending. However, if he is going to use cruise missiles, at a minimum I would want him to take out the Syrian air force like was done in Libya. That will help level the playing field. |
