I think you are correct, and I think MS might well do something in the semi space. They did a significant amount of chip design for Xbox One, and they are also an ARM architectural licensee.

At present, Apple relies on outsiders (Samsung) for semi fabrication, but does design their own chips. Samsung relies on outsiders for their OS (Google). How vertical is MS going to attempt to go??
